Celebrating 40 Years of Spotlight on Talent

Honoring Sally Blackwood

Heritage Arts Center Associate celebrated our  40th annual “Spotlight on Talent” Performing Arts  Competition,  held March 25, 2023 at the Center for the Arts at Wesley Chapel High.

None of this would be possible without the vision of Sally Blackwood, who in
1983 gathered arts lovers to form the non-profit, volunteer group in order to promote
performing and visual arts opportunities in this once rural and agricultural area. The
same year she produced the first performing arts competition for young people.
Spotlight on Talent has grown from 30 acts held at the county fair, to an $18,000 event
with professional judges held at Wesley Chapel’s stage-of-the-art Center for the Arts.
Producer Friedman gave an emotional tribute to “Miss Sally”, who greeted a standing,
cheering, misty-eyed crowd – in front of a screen showing scenes from her long
teaching career and early Spotlight scenes.  We celebrate you “Miss Sally”!
